This is a three day intensive course accredited by The Advanced Life Support Group, which aims to teach the candidate how to treat a seriously ill and seriously injured child as well as how to treat a child in cardiac arrest.
One day is required to complete an on line learning module prior to attending the 2 day face to face element delivered at the COCH.
The syllabus covers many subjects relating to the treatment of the sick, injured and arrested child. The practical stations include Basic Life Support of infant and child, Basic and Advanced airway management, defibrillation, scenario teach (simulated situations for the management of cardiac arrest, sick and injured child). Workshops in Acid Base, treatment of the septic child, fluids and electrolytes, pain management, transportation. Skill stations in chest drain insertion, umbilical cord insertion, intra osseous needle insertion, surgical airway management.

Expected Learning Outcomes
- Be able to work effectively as a member of the Paediatric cardiac arrest team to a level appropriate to your grade
- Be able to lead a Paediatric Resuscitation attempt when required to do so
