Discussion of cases, how to prioritise workload and manage labour ward.

 

Skills drills

Station 1 Shoulder dystocia & PPH

Station 2 Eclampsia & Maternal resuscitation and anaphylaxis

Station 3 Sepsis &Neonatal resuscitation

 

Multidisciplinary team work approach to early warning of an ill patient, managing emergencies, escalation and debriefing parents.

 

Epidural Management Update

  • Discussion of epidural analgesia in labour and the midwives role for management
  • Escalation where observations deviate from the normal

 

Cardio Toco Graph (CTG) & Intermittent Auscultation (IA) of Fetal Heart

  • Review two CTGs with regards to interpretation and management of the cases
  • Review low risk case with IA and management of the case

Expected Learning Outcomes

Interactive Skills drills stations using manikins and emergency equipment, using a multi-disciplinary team approach. Be a part of the obstetric emergency team in managing all emergencies as practiced in the skill drill sessions and take the lead if required.
