Appropriate participants include doctors and nurses working (community and hospital based), Medical Students, Midwives, Dentists, Dental Nurses, Ambulance Technicians/paramedics. Health Care Support Workers (Band 2 or 3) are accepted onto the course but require manager’s approval that this course is essential for their role.
The Venepunture and Cannulation course consists of; 2 hours training session (0830-1030hrs or 1100-1300hrs); lectures and practical simulation training in the Clinical Skills training area.
Clinical experience is gained within own work area with the support of Unit/Departmental/ Ward managers, there is no workplace learning within the course.

Expected Learning Outcomes
To evaluate and demonstrate Venepuncture and/or Cannulation skill(s) within the skills lab environment to a safe level before gaining experiential learning within the ward/department area.
